My partner and i stayed here from august 22nd until the 25th. We expressed our concerns on the evening of our arrival, our room was grubby with worn and presented nothing like what was advertised, the roller blinds were broken and we were told they would be fixed, however they did not repair this throughout our stay. We asked to move rooms which they said they could not accommodate but it turns out that they would not. They put us on the top floor which smelled of fresh paint all weekend, myself currently on crutches due to recent injury found this difficult especially as considering every day our room key would deactivate.. if i was alone this would of been more difficult. After house keeping services long black strands of hair were left in the bedding and fell out of clean but stained towels.. I asked to speak to a manager upon leaving as if we could of left sooner we would have. The lady on the desk who usually works in the restaurant informed me that there was no manager present, took my complaint and told me i would be called the day after 26th. I have not yet received correspondence even though i have followed up with an email, again to which I'vereceivedno reply.. upon leaving i requested a refund as the only thing we received to the standard that was advertised was the spa which is in an entirely different building through the car park. The spa facilities were lovely, clean and the staff were without fault.

We stayed for two nights at Lion Quays. Breakfast was good although the dining room was unsatisfactory. The carpets were dirty and surrounding decor required dusting and washing, the stained chairs require replacing, the second day i opted for a wooden chair these seemed a little more hygenic for this reason we did not dine in the restaurant but ate out. We had an executive room, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean but would benefit from a fresh coat of paint due to marked walls and stained tables. The extra bed cover had what looked like cigarette burns on the underside, we dont use these anyway but that is not the point. Our room had a view of the canal which was nice but it would have been more enjoyable if the windows had been clean. The bathroom also required an update due to the bath/shower water stained areas, rusty door-stop along with a soap dispenser that was not fit for purpose, I did not use the iron supplied as the stand was rusty. Not what I would expect from a superior room. What a shame as this has the potential to be a beautiful hotel. Will return if standards are improved.

Midrange

Room was not cleanest when we checked in with stains on the bedding. Had to wait a long time at reception to speak to someone about it. The lady seemed very over worked but was great and changed our room right away so cannot fault her. Overall I would say the hotel rooms look tired and in need of freshen up and deep clean. Spa and breakfast were very good on a positive note

Disappointing stay, expected better standards

Restaurant was lovely, food at our evening meal was superb, breakfast again, top notch, staff in the restaurant and bar so helpful and friendly, cocktails brilliant, Henry makes an amazing “old fashioned”. Room was disappointing, plug in shower damaged, black mould patches in shower, bottom of bathroom door rotten, doors need a good paint, very dirty and worn, heater in room so dirty, I mean disgusting! For a 4 star hotel at this price I expect A LOT better standard. No usb’s to charge devices, strange in this day and age, wouldn’t go back.

Lions Quays Oswestry

Prior to arriving I asked if I was able to add my wife & 3 year old child onto the booking I was told there would be a charge of £35 to do this which was fine. Upon checking out and seeing my invoice I was charged £50 & £15 for a breakfast I didn’t have. Spa facilities were very good. Went for dinner with my partner and child waited around 40 minutes for starters. Found a plastic circular object in the coleslaw when reported to staff was told “oh sorry about that”. There was only sparkling water in the room so asked reception for still water was then told they’d get some sent to the room this didn’t arrive.

For an executive room it was very tired. The bed definately needed a new mattress it was very soft. The bar area was pleasant but again looked very tired. Dirty stained chairs and marks on wall. Our evening meal was lovely and so was breakfast although one 4 slice toaster didn’t appear to be enough causing cues

The Lion Quays is a great break for peace and quiet. Could do with a few more choices on the evening menu. They do have a problem with beer flies in the bar area, which can be annoying.

Disappointed

When we told people we were staying at Lion Quays, the response was oh posh. But unfortunately it wasnt, our room was small and very worn out. Paint missing from doors and cupboards, the headboard looked like someone was trying to escape with material on it scratched away. Stains on fixtures and pillows. The shower gel/shampoo practically empty. The view from the room was an overgrown area, next to an aircon unit and bins. Although im not sure where the aircon was for the rooms, as it was so hot, athough we were provided with a very small fan which was also tired and provided no relief at all. At breakfast alot of the chairs were stained, our table was sticky and had some sort of film covering it. Was generally disappointed at the price we paid, for a room that was so tired.

The bedrooms need a refurb and deep clean! Dust, cobwebs and dirt on the floor. Ripped net curtain which needs replacing. Tv remote didnt work properly. Opened the balcony doors for fresh air to be met with filthy windows externally and several spiders and cobwebs on the internal edge of the frame. There were 4 spiders in webs in the room which was not good for someone who is scared of them! Did not make for a good night sleep! For what is charged it really needs to be better. Staff were great.
