We stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa Downtown while traveling with our two dogs. Before arriving, I tried calling the hotel, and although the wait times were very long, once I got through the staff were helpful and kind.
The room itself was clean and comfortable, and throughout our stay the staff were genuinely welcoming. The location is a mix of pros and cons: on the one hand, it’s within walking distance of many attractions in Ottawa, but on the other, the area is heavily populated with individuals struggling with homelessness, substance use, or mental health issues. Walking our dogs late at night felt unsafe.
Parking was one of the biggest challenges—it was overcrowded, and if you have a larger vehicle, finding a spot can be extremely difficult. Breakfast was just average; you can definitely find better options nearby in town.
On a positive note, the bar and patio experience stood out. We brought our dogs with us, and the chef kindly prepared special shredded chicken just for them. The server took wonderful care of both us and our dogs, creating such a warm, memorable moment.
Overall, the hotel itself is clean, dog-friendly, and staffed with truly kind people, but the parking and surrounding area are definite drawbacks.
