Pekapeka Tiny House by Tiny Away
Summary:
Escape the drowning pressures of city life and experience the slow and laidback lifestyle at Pekapeka Tiny House, New Zealand. It's one of the tiny house rentals surrounded by abundant vegetation and native birdlife (such as Tui, Bellbird, Kereru, etc.) to keep you company.
Nestled in the heart of The Catlins, Pekapeka is the perfect base to explore the local flora and fauna, beaches, bays, and much, much more.
The Space:
Pekapeka Tiny House by Tiny Away is located in Owaka, situated in the remote south with minimal light pollution, The Catlins offers the perfect setting to witness the breathtaking Aurora Australis. Nearby Purakaunui Falls, Nugget Point, McLean Falls, and Owaka Museum are just a few of the attractions in the area.
A comfortable 139 square-feet tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers) for you to use.
If you plan to spend your holiday homes NZ escape here, we advise that you bring your own food, although there is a small supermarket and several local eateries just 5 minutes drive away. Thank you.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that we have a second tiny house called "Tranquility Tiny House" on the property. If you plan to book in groups, please contact your land host 24 hours in advance.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and its surrounding areas, except the land host's private residence.
Guests are allowed to explore the property, however, as part of our Qualmark certification, they must first go through a health and safety briefing before signing a waiver. Please keep in mind that there are no significant hazards on the property that would endanger our guests and that this is simply a routine from guest to land host.
The Neighborhood:
Pekapeka Tiny House by Tiny Away sits in the small town of Owaka, South Otago close to Catlins. It's a 27 minute drive from the town of Balclutha, your ideal holiday homes NZ escape, where you can explore natural attractions such as native forests, beaches, bays, waterfalls, caves, and more.
Our local recommendations:
- Purakaunui Falls are a cascading three-tiered waterfall located in the heart of the Catlins Forest Park.
- Cannibal Bay is well known for beach surfing, coastal walks, and sea-lions that often gather to sunbathe.
- Florence Hill Lookout is an excellent location for viewing Tautuku Beach and the southern lights at night.
- Nugget Point is a renowned panoramic spot on the Catlins coast that features one of New Zealand's oldest lighthouses overlooking rocks named by Captain Cook for their gold-like appearance.
- Catlins Horse Trek is an exciting attraction that offers small-group rides through farmland, native woodlands, and wildlife.
- The Catlins offers a wide range of natural attractions such as native forests, sandy beaches, sparkling bays, cascading waterfalls, and many more.

Guest Advisory
- We would like to remind guests that our tiny house follows ecologically sustainable principles, including a waterless eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank.
- Due to recent heavy rains, some earthworks are currently underway around the property. We are doing our best to minimise any disruption, and we appreciate your understanding during this time.
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- Please note there are many native birds living here and their birdsong can be loud at times
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the [compost/cassette] toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
Interaction with Guests:
Guests will enjoy your own private space but we are always happy to chat with you.
