We stayed in the Lewis Carroll Room and it was spacious and clean. Nice bathroom and felt great. Super central so you can walk to everything and the staff were lovely and helpful. We were woken up super early by the bin men over the road, but such is a inner town location. No lifts, so had to drag my cases up the stairs and that wasn't fun, but ho hum....

The Vanbrugh House Hotel was a nice hotel in a wonderful location in Oxford. It is surrounded by the university colleges and many restaurants and shops.

One important improvement suggestion: The floors in the shower were slippery and especially dangerous with soap suds. We were very concerned about slipping about falling. Please add handle bars and/or texture/slip resistant additions to the tile floors.

Lovely old property with modern facilities but retained traditional style. I found the bed uncomfortable for me however that does not reflect on comfort of room. Breakfast was simple but still nice, dining room would benefit from some music in the background as too quiet. Would stay again.

The location for Oxford city centre is great. The rooms however are tired. We arrived and then bed wasn’t properly made so we had to remake the bed which revealed a stained mattress under the topper. The bedding was old with holes in places. The throw across the bottom of the bed was stained.

A little disappointing

Hotel was in a great location and room was nicely laid out and spacious. I do think it was overpriced for the following reasons: There were a couple of bits which could have been cleaned to a higher standard. One example being my daughter ended up with a pimple patch stuck to her from a previous guest! The shower did not drain very well so you were standing in a pool of water for the entire shower. Also, there are works going on outside the front of the hotel, which started with an early delivery at 6 in the morning of what sounded like rocks or stones. Then work began just before 8 with the very loud throwing of stones into the back of a truck. It was far from the calm and relaxing morning we had hoped for.

Its great! Love it! But remember - if you wont have your breakfast in the morning and want to leave it in the room until you come back (maybe in the afternoon) - inform the front desk or put the notes on the desk :)
