Loved this stay- unforgettable experience of having a little caboose on a hill, overlooking the railyard to ourselves. Will absolutely be looking to come back. The interior is nicely appointed, so much original character, thoughtfully preserved. Must love trains- the railyard is active around the clock- which was a plus for me to be so close to this exciting industrious activity, but it does screech sometimes if you're sensitive to that, so there's earplugs provided. The host is Robin who also runs the Steaming Tender diner at the old station depot, another must see! A convenient short walk along the railyard from your caboose home. 10/10 stay.
This place is a unique stay, that's for sure! If you are looking for an unforgettable experience, you should come. If you love trains, you should come. However, if you are not that fond of tight spaces or old-fashioned style and your traveling companions are looking for luxury and privacy, you might want to look elsewhere. The bathroom is a big tight (it's a caboose bathroom). But the location is really fun. And the owners are very accommodating!
Loved the caboose! Had so much fun with my family! Plenty of space. Loved that it had full kitchen, AC and bathroom all inside. Wished we stayed longer. Loved the sitting spaces and the history of the caboose from the past. The location was tucked away and quiet and loved the views of the railroad. Would have been more ideal in another section of Palmer but makes sense it was near the Steaming Tender.
This caboose property is quite the train adventure. All authentic super clean train fixtures and nostalgic decor will lead you to believe the train has left the station! The family can hang out in the private yard with picnic tables ,a fire pit and grill, play games, and watch the train activity that takes place below the property! The town of Palmer is filled with the most welcoming and accommodating residents. There are more adventures in town like eating at the luncheon train car or dining in the restored train depot. Antiquing and thrifting is plentiful.Relax on Caboose property or go fishing. We are making this an annual vacay. We find something new to enjoy each visit.
Loved everything about the caboose. Immaculately clean and the attention to detail. The only problem is the beds. They have the old metal springs which one of the most uncomfortable and painful sleeping experiences of my life. Maybe ok for little kids but not a person in their 50âs. We ended up sleeping in the 2 chairs.
Area did not have too much but I did love watching the functional trains across the back area.
I would give my review 5 stars except for the beds.
We felt right at home the minute we walked thru the door! Its the most unique place we have ever stayed. The caboose had so many of the original feature. The Innkeepers are readily available and very kind. The outside fire pit area was enjoyed nightly.
Staying in a caboose was memorable for my boys. They thought it was very cool. Fit for purpose, IMO, aside from potential to fall out of top bunks. This is a cabin near train tracks and not a luxury getaway in the Berkshires - it's a little far from things.
