Yiannis Cottage is situated in a small village in W. Crete, set above Spilia's Myrtidiotissa Church, with it's magnificent painted interior. Indulge yourself around your own beautiful private Pool, listening to bird-song and enjoying the scent of fragrant flowers.
Every year we made some changes in order to have a better and higher quality stay.
Our pool is salted, which means that we won't use chlorine, so the pool is totally ecological. We made also the pool heated for the colder months of the season (Spring and Autumn). 2 new big wooden sunbeds and a perfect for relaxing nest are provided to you.
We brought even closer nature to you and your table with more fruits and vegetables from our garden and fresh eggs from a new small hennery a few meters away from the Cottage.
The design of the outdoor space was based on plants that grow at the area , as well as on local building materials. The only thing you need to do is to care about our plants.
Yiannis Cottage is provided with the special sign of the Greek Tourist Organization (EOT-1354121504) which secures the quality level of all services, terms and conditions our guests have the privilege to enjoy during their stay.

Grant and I have just returned from the most fabulous stay in this property and would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Spilia. The house is stunning and served as such a beautiful and cosy home from home. The garden and pool were perfect and the most relaxing of places to spend the day and/or evening. The pool is large enough to take a daily swim or just to cool down in after lounging in the sun on the comfy sun beds. It’s also great that it’s free of chemicals! The house and gardens are so tranquil and served as little oasis in which we really wound down and relaxed. Mani was an unbelievable host and went above and beyond to make sure that we had the best holiday. He was on hand to give us advice re the local trips that we took and also provided scrumptious local foods for us on our arrival. It’s difficult to describe how beautiful this place is and we will definitely be returning and recommending it to friends and family. Thank you so much for having us. Grant and Michelle x x

We had a fantastic week in this property and it had everything we needed for two adults and two children. The pool was the perfect size for the four of us. The village is well located to explore western Crete and has some really good taverna’s within a short walk.Manos was extremely welcoming and gave us some excellent tips and recommendations as well as some fresh local produce on arrival. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I would highly recommend this villa for anyone wishing to avail of a home-to-home stay in Crete. So peaceful a place and after a couple of days back home in Ireland I cannot stop thinking of this beautiful villa and peaceful village. Our host couldn’t do enough for us during our stay and the villa was ideal, situated in a quiet village with a few local bars and restaurants in walking distance from the villa that perfectly suited us after a long day at the beach and our sightseeing tours. Pure Relaxation

Lovely time, well served by Manos, who is always happy to help. A few points perhaps not previously mentioned in other reviews - The salt water pool is not as salty as the sea. Birds and cats are happy to drink from it. There is a water filter tap by the sink - saves laborious carrying of water bottle packs from the supermarkets. Separate aircon in bedroom and in sitting room. Manos has attached a gadget to the TV which picks up Netflix, etc. WiFi is good, but does occasionally drop out (it is Greece, after all). Manos provides a separate link via mobile phone connection, as a back up. Bed is comfortable - good mattress. Other than that, a lovely break and will look to book again for next year.

Perfect week in Crete

Our stay in Spilia was perfect start to finish - Manos was brilliant and on hand for anything we needed throughout (& kept us very well fed!) His booklet full of recommendations was really useful as well, we did/saw/ate lots that we wouldn’t have known about without it. The photos don’t do the villa justice, it’s very private and the flowers and bell tower and mountains in the distance make the most beautiful peaceful surroundings. The pool was wonderful, big enough for a proper swim - we also enjoyed the occasional visits from the many local cats! The inside is quiet, clean and comfortable - we both slept the best we have in ages! The village itself is very pretty - we tried two of the local tavernas and both were great (especially Ta Platanias) and there is a shop within walking distance. 10/10 - definitely recommend for any couple wanting to relax and explore Crete.

What a cosy place!!!

This was my third time at this region of Crete which is my favorite in Greece!!I choosed this villa based from the reviews and I was right!!! The villa is exactly what a couple needs for relaxing and more!!! The villa has everything you may need. 1)Privacy!Nobody can bother you.The entrance of the house is near a pricate family road. 2)You can feel isolated but a few steps away there are 2 grate tradisional taverns for foodbor drink. 3) The pool is very Big for 2 people,is salted and it is heated!!!!!!When we booked we didn't know it!!! 4) Manolis...He didn't charve anything more for the amenity of the heated pool and he did...Everything we could ask from an owner..Tips,kindness and the feeling you can base on him if anything happens.We travel.a lot and all these things are what you search! The welcome pack was also unexpected. We have never seen anything similar. Thank you much Manolis.We will be back!!

More than expected!!

We had the most wonderful stay at Yiannis Cottage. The house is beautiful & in a perfect location at the traditional village of Spilia close to lots of lovely beaches and taverns.. The pool is salted and we really enjoyed it, we have never stayed into the pool so much.Manolis was so lovely - we have never stayed with such fantastic host before.I would recommend this villa to every couple or small family for relaxing. We can’t wait to return!

Fantastic 2 Person Villa in Crete

This was the second time we had stayed in this villa after our first trip in 2018. The villa is perfect for 2 people, with a fabulous garden, encompassing a large pool and 2 seating areas. It is very difficult to find something this good for 2 people, it is almost unique. The villa is in a great location on the Western side of Crete, and is within driving distance of many beaches, including some of Crete's most famous ones. It is situated in the charming village of Spilia and is within walking distance of two good tavernas. The city of Chania with its picturesque harbour is only 30 minutes drive away with Chania airport being another 10 minutes on. The best thing about this villa is the owner, Manolis. He goes out of his way to ensure you have a great holiday, and is there to meet all your needs. He is extremely kind and helpful, without being intrusive. We have travelled to many places across the world and this is the only villa we have stayed in twice which reflects just how much we like it. I know you will too. We hope to return in the future.

Lovely place brilliant host

We have recently returned from a very happy 9 day stay in the cottage. Fantastic location within walking distance of 2 very good local tavernas & within driving distance of beaches, walks, wineries etc. Great outside space including lovely good sized pool, outside eating areas in both shade & sun. Stand out feature was Manolis himself especially helpful with local tips & answered all our questions plus a very generous delicious food & drink package on arrival which fed us for several meals supplemented by his father’s wonderful vegetable garden, we also loved his gift of honey soaked pastries.We would definitely like to return space permitting & highly recommend ideal for a couple.

Lovely Cottage, amazing owner,grate location

We would like to thank Manos for his help. He organised the car,the Cottage,our transfer to Samaria gorge,the cooking lessons,and more.He gave us the best tips for the region,which only locals know. The Cottage is perfect for a couple,the pool is very big,the outdoor area is much better than the photos. We travel for years ,a lot of times in Crete also. The welcome pack ,Manolis offers is something really different. Generally speaking visiting Yiannis is a grate experience for many reasons. The only problem is that the Cottage is very popular so we have to book very early. We will definitely try to come again.

Lovely Villa with big pool in such a nice location.

We always check the reviews of every property we book. Yiannis Cottage has grate reviews anyway but i will add another one i have to do it because we had a grate experience. The pool is huge for 2 people, maybe it s good for 4 or 5. We enjoyed the time there in front of the grate garden. We could have sun or no if we could be under the trees! The bed is very comfortable, the bath and the separate toilet are fantastic, the kitchen very well equipped. The living room and the outside area are very well decorated and comfortable. The garden was so beautiful we enjoyed the time there beside the pool. The location was perfect to explore the region. We enjoyed the tavern a few meters away, we walked round the village to the big cave , some minutes away. Kolimvari is a nice village where you can find anything you may need, but we passed most of our time in Spilia village. Manolis the owner, is an intelligent man who can give you any information you need, he can solve any problem you may have. We really enjoyed the time with him and we felt very comfortable. We will come back!!

Wonderful little cottage in a special location

This cottage has everything you would ever want for a great holiday. Superb swimming pool. Beautiful garden and the interior was extremely well equipped with excellent air con. Manolis and his family made us so welcome, provided us with more food than we could eat. In particular eggs from hens at the end of our garden and pastries from mother. Spilia is a lovely village, not too far from other good places but with two really good tavernas and a slightly more up market restaurant at the Spilia Village Hotel. Manolis gave us loads of info on places to go. Afrata beach was a wonderful hidden beach that we would never have found if it hadn’t been for advice by Manolis. Will be back next year

We are a couple and we have stayed in many self catering properties in different countries and this was by far the most memorable. We have read the reviews about the hospitall;ity of the owner we always check all the details..It different when you go there. From the minute we walked from the parking area to the Cottage after following Manolis detailed directions until the day we left, we were treated like family. Upon arrival, The house was so well stocked from from a full fridge of milk, cheese (2 different types), bread , butter, eggs from Manolis hens,amazing tomatoes from the garden nearby, bacon, fruits,wine, raki we didn’t need to go out the next day!Moreover the Cottage is full equipped with 2 different very good quality coffee makers for espresso and filtered coffee. How amazing to find this level of attention and care. Manolis is a young and very intelligent man. From the first moment he understood what kind of thing we like so he gave us the best tips for these. We followed his advises and...We would never found all these hidden places..So beautiful , so traditional so unspoiled. I have to mention the big advantage of the location of the Cottage, 2 very good taverns in walking distance, the motorway 5 minutes drive,very close to Kolimvari village for fresh fish etc, close to Chania, close to Falassarna (Manolis insisted to stay there till the sunset, we didn;t manage it but next time), close to Palaiohora and the wonderful beaches there. During our staying Manolis asked us if we need anything , if we have any problem he was always there....And he also broughty us one of the most fantastic cvheese pies (they call it kalitsounos) we have ever tasted...The only bad thing if you rent this Cottage is that you need to leave.....We came back to Germany...But we have already made plans for the next year... We had a very happy 6 days at Yannis Cottage. The cottage had everything we needed, including my absolute essentials - comfortable bed, coffee machine, good shower, lovely garden and pool. Local tavernas were great but we also enjoyed exploring many of Manolis’ other recommendations, including a visit to the local vineyard. We’d love to go back!

Very lovely cottage in a very well located area

We've just spent 2 weeks in August 2018 on this very pleasant cottage. It is really well located on a small charming village of West North Crete. Near to the main road, you can easily visit north & west of the Island with many interesting touristic area : Chania, monasteries, famous beaches as Fallasarna, Balos & Elafonissi lagoons, Samaria Gorges & others... You have also small villages as Afrata and its small beach and tavern you can go in 15mn by car (with beautifull road mixing montains and sea !) The cottage is very pleasant with the swimming pool, the trees and lots of flowers, beautifull landscape on the village's Church and the montains. The owner of the cottage, Manolis, is a so so so gentle man !! He takes time to give you good bargains to visit the Island, where to eat local food, and also discuss with you about many things as you do with your own friends ! He brought us so much things to eat and drink when we arrived that was so nice to begin our holidays ! Everything is done to feel good as if you were in your own house : you can take directly fresh eggs from the laying hen, you have to drag flowers to take care about it. Two terraces allows you to eat with sun or not. Thanks again for all to Manolis !

Beautiful Location!

The perfect home from home

We came over from the UK for a little 5 day getaway after the school holidays. We found Yiannis cottage to be a beautiful little gem of a place in which to spend lazy days by the pool and from where to base ourselves for easy access to the beautiful and varied region of Western Crete. Manolis did everything to make our stay comfortable and prepared a fridge full of Cretan delights for our arrival. The people of Spilia village all made us feel very welcome and we enjoyed meeting them over the course of our shopping trips to the local mini-market and cold beers in the local taverna. Spilia village is an ideal location and Yiannis cottage a beautiful and very comfortable home from home. Our only regret is that 5 days is too short a time within which to explore all that Western Crete has to offer. We have no intention of looking for a different Cretan cottage for subsequent visits, Yiannis cottage will be our number one choice in the future.

Yiannis Cottage is a perfect home from home; our 4th visit to Yiannis’ Cottage

The day begins with the gentle sound of the dawn chorus - the birds start including the hens (cota) in the garden next door followed by the goats and sheep.A motorbike putters along the valley road.The church chimes start at 7 am.Fresh eggs for breakfast courtesy of those same hens who love to be fed. Greek yoghurt & honey that is provided by our hosts. Yiannis or Katerina (our hosts) passes by along the adjacent lane - ‘kalimera OK?’ ‘Kala’ (good - a useful word as most things are kala). Coffee on the terrace outside the front door sometimes joined by Manolis our host’s son & house manager who suggests restaurants or points of interest. . A trip to the beach? (Golden beach was a new recommendation from M this year). A walk in Deliana gorge to see how much water is flowing this year and lunch at a To Faragi? Lunch at Wave in the Rocks on the Rodopu peninsula or Gramvoussa on the Balos peninsula? Investigations of Minoan, Roman settlements near Kissamos. Or a walk from the house to the churches at Aya Panagia or St Johns Cave Church in Spilia (which means cave). Early or late season the Vassiliopolou restaurant is open at weekends - a ‘don’t miss’. Kolimbari is 3 km along the road with fish tavernas (Diktina is run by a fisherman), fresh fish shop, butchers (an excellent one in the Synka supermarket with English spoken). Cafe snack bar Rosmari’s. Everything from cappuccino to malotira (Greek mountain tea). Homemade cheese pies? Tuna salad sandwich? Maybe a raki? Sun or the shade. No news on the TV. If you want to watch a sports events ask Costas; he will check the TV schedule for Cosmote. Day trip to Chania to visit the ancient Agora market, shop, walk the Venetian harbour, wander the old town streets. Heading back towards home - an evening drink at the friendly and floral Vouves taverna at the top of the local world near the oldest olive tree and an amazing view of the coast. Sunset watched from the other YC terrace, by the pool, maybe a dip. Home cooked dinner or BBQ or dinner at the Platanias taverna by the historic fountain in the tree shaded Spilia Square, three minutes walk away - cooked by Yiorgios and served by his two brothers Nikos and Costas. Special Cretan salad with mizithra the local cheese. The Cretan hospitality is famous and consistent and our hosts are a perfect example. We have only been back a week; a part of me is still there but I will rejoin it next year.

Friendly, Clean, lovely hideaway

I don't really want to give 5 stars or a good report. This may make it difficult for me to book in the future. This was my 6th visit to Yianni Cottage. That should give you a idea how I like it. You do have to do some work wile staying. You have to feed the chickens but then you do get free eggs for. Breakfast! From the rear of the cottage you have your own private pool. Alos lovley views over oilive groves to the White Mountains. There is a nice friendly taverna stagering distance run by brothers. The cottage is well looed after, and good kitchen utensils. Even a Nescafe Dolce Gusro coffee machine & ato washing machine So Please do not All go and book as I want to still return. For next year I have jumped the quew Iv already booked !!

Lovely villa in friendly and authentic village

We had a lovely time at Manolis's villa in Spilia. The villa is the perfect size for two people looking for a relaxing get away. Peace, tranquility, friendly people, a great local taverna and good access to the coast and the hills. Manolis and his family were great hosts, we couldn't have asked for more. The local produce they gave us during our stay was fantastic and a real treat. We really didn't want to leave! Thanks for everything Manolis!
