Nestled up in the mountains of Vermont, the Black Dog Lodge was an ideal spot for us to spend a much-needed weekend away. The location is a perfect balance between being isolated (very, very quiet and serene surroundings; little to no light pollution in the evening) and connected (a short drive to Shaw's in Ludlow, and only 20 minutes from the quaint downtown of Woodstock). I took advantage of the well-stocked kitchen and was able to make a little Thanksgiving dinner for us to enjoy!
The location, as indicated, is up in the mountains, so the winter months will definitely be a challenge if you don't have a proper vehicle.
Though it was just my husband and our two doodles for the weekend, the lodge itself has a terrific layout for multiple families. The wood-burning stove on the ground level kept the place super comfortable at night when temperatures dipped, and the gas furnace on the second floor was easy to adjust to keep that level comfortable as well.
Plenty of towels, linens, blankets, pillows, and all the comforts of home. The lodge is thoughtfully decorated; you can really tell that they've put a considerable amount of effort into creating an inviting space. The wifi signal was excellent: we streamed the World Cup right to the SmartTV in the main living room with no signal disruptions.
Our host, Christine, was extremely responsive in the days leading up to our trip, throughout check-in, and towards the end of our stay. We were welcomed with a little bag of Vermont treats for humans and pups; such a kind gesture!
We'd stay again in a heartbeat!
