You have the pond and house to yourself, hidden away from the road; it's great escape from everything. Bring a telescope or binoculars, it gets legitimately dark and the stars are wonderful.
We had a great vacation on Jaybird Pond, swimming, kayaking, hiking and making family memories.
Renters should know that the property does not have running water or electricity. The property managers help you figure out how to boil the pond water and use the propane lamps.
If youâre willing to rough it, you canât beat the experience of having your own pond.
We both very much enjoyed the cabin and the pond we were on. Only disappointment was we couldn't catch any fish except catfish. We still had fun, They provided a canoe but we also brought paddle boards. It was very peaceful and serene. You could hear the cars from the main road and the road going into the cabin is very rough. We had a small SUV and I felt I should of had a truck. All in all it was pleasant, peaceful and we were unplugged. I am heading back to work feeling refreshed.
This is the perfect offgrid cabin to stay! Everything in one place we didnt need to leave! Close to town. We cant wait to go again. Owners are amazing!
We loved our stay here! It was definitely one of the most relaxing vacations we have been on. The property is so perfect. We spent the day outside on the lake. We brought our paddle board with us and it was so nice to explore with. The house has everything you need. The beds were comfortable. We loved everything about it!
The property was gorgeous. Even when we couldnât figure out the stove (Oy) they came right away to help. Sweetest people, beautiful place. Amazing family vacation, weâve already decided to book ASAP for next summer. Thank you!
My friends and I had such a good time here, the water felt incredible and it was so nice waking up and hopping out in the water on a kayak. We will definitely be back! Everything about this trip was perfect.
Exactly as described in the website! We were very happy with the cabin, the cleanliness, and the location. The owners provided everything that we needed to enjoy - we only needed to bring water, flashlights. and food, plus our bedding. The dogs loved it, and we did too! Would definitely stay again.
Unfortunately, my stay was cut VERY short due to a medical emergency with my dog (which had nothing to do with the property). I only was able to stay one night, but will definitely be going back. In fact, the owner felt so badly about my situation, they've offered to have me back at no charge. I will definitely be booking in the future.
This location is ideal if you want privacy and the cabin is well appointed. It's kind of like glorified "glamping" with no running water or electricity. The gas lights are awesome and the gas refrigerator is perfect.
A couple of things I wish I had brought with me and will next time; a tablecloth for the outdoor picnic table, my camp water jug for dishes, folding chairs, and a good battery operated reading light. Other than that, I could've been very comfortable for the week!
We had a great time being off grid at this location! My 9 and 12 year old got back to being kids running around in nature again without technology and we reconnected as a family! The pond was great to kayak in, we did not swim though a bit murky for our taste but plenty of other places close by to swim. Would love to return in cooler weather, it was really hot when we visited.
We absolutely loved our stay at Jaybird. It was absolutely perfect for my wife, our two friends, and a pup. We will definitely be back, it is the epitome of New England Camp.
One Note: We arrived at night and had a VERY DIFFICULT time finding the road, Google, GPS, Apple Maps, none worked. We had no service so we could not call the hosts either. We ultimately found the gate after driving up and down the road a few times. If you arrive at night and come from the south, it is the very first (and somewhat hidden) pull-off on the left after passing a big white house.
We enjoyed our short stay at this rustic scenic pond-side cabin. It was easy to manage living without running water and electricity- a fun experience using solar and propane-fueled power. We appreciated options for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and games. The property was well organized by the owners, who provided friendly support and clear communication.
For us, it was a comfortable and quiet place to stay, while we attended the music festival.
The cabin was amazing and so relaxing! Totally alone on the pond! My 2 year old had a ball fishing! He caught something with every cast! The outhouse was clean and we didnât have any issues using that. We will be back!!
We disconnected from the world and reconnected with each other. This experience made us get close and explore some things that would normally be awkward. The view was beautiful, the cabin was so cute and comfortable. We kayaked, fished, had a fire it was great !
Comfortable cabin on a beautiful pond. We enjoyed the fall colors and a bit of fishing. Caught bluegills and catfish. No electricity but wasnât too inconvenient. Indoor lighting with gas lamps was in place but didnât provide a ton of light. Plenty to get around but not read with. Had a great stay and would happily go back!
How nice to have a whole pond to yourself! If you are looking for some peaceful solitude in a beautiful spot Jaybird is the ideal place. We were there on a chilly rainy fall weekend but stayed warm and cozy in the cabin. The porch is a great spot for sipping coffee and watching all the wildlife around the pond. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Hosts were good about communicating and answering any questions we had. We would happily stay here again.
We had a great time at the cabin. For a small cabin, it was well appointed with kitchenware and furniture.
The pond was amazing and our boys loved diving off of the platform. The water was warm and the swimming platform is out in 12-15 feet of water so you can dive safely and there are no weeds.
I tried fishing but only got lots of tiny pumpkinseeds (2-3 inches). Kids would probably love this because they are easy to catch.
Not having running water makes washing dishes painful but we figured out a process. Not having electricity was fine except we could have really used a fan. The temperature was in the mid to upper 80's a couple days and the sleeping loft gets very hot. Without a fan to exhaust the hot air out or just to have some air movement up there, it was uncomfortable sleeping. If you have a battery powered fan, bring it.
And - be sure to stop at the ice cream shop at the end of the road (Route 160 Ice Cream) - they have a ton of delicious flavors that are served in enormous scoops (a kiddy cone is ridiculously big).
We loved staying at Jaybird Pond. We were looking for privacy and water to spend the week floating on- and we got it! The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. A great Glamping experience!
My friends and I had a great time here. It's very rustic but also has all the benefits of being rustic: the pond is very quiet and peaceful, you've got a lot of space to yourself, and we felt totally undisturbed. Perfect for a weekend trip.
We wanted to disconnect from the screen and reconnect with each other. We wanted nature, we wanted privacy. We got all of that plus more. It was so beautiful and so priceless. The perfect escape.
This is a beautiful, remote, private spot, perfect for going off the grid, especially with dogs!
We loved our time at the property, which was only hampered by too much rain! We made do, though, and had a great time. One issues and a comment for cooks and anglers. Our only issue was with the quality of the sleep sofa. We needed to sleep downstairs for our old dog who would have barked all night. The bed is old and slopes downward towards the side cushions. We slept the other way, which worked, but even with a thick mattress cushion we brought, the bar in the bed made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. If you love to cook, maybe bring a light source for the kitchen. There is a gas light, but the kitchen area is dark all day. Really not a problem at all - I made fine meals, but just a suggestion. If youâre coming to fish, you might be disappointed. The state stopped stocking this pond years ago and while I caught a few small native trout on the fly, not much else, except some small yellow perch. The pond is ringed with weeds, so canoe is best. Might just be I had a bad few days, but I fished it pretty hard. There are other lakes and rivers in the area, though. Overall, though, would highly recommend.
