We did not spend much time at River View but enjoyed our stay. We spent most of our time with family that lives in the area and taking in local sights.
The apartment has a unique charm, and I would most definitely recommend it.
The host was easy to communicate with, and it made the stay so much more enjoyable.
Beds and sheets were so comfy! The apartment home was clean and had everything we needed! We were happy to be so close to our family and in a safe neighborhood too!
This is NOT a resort or cabin in the woods. You are staying in a four plex in an old steel mill neighborhood. This came as a bit of a shock at first. This being said we had a wonderful experience there. Really felt the history of the building and the working class neighborhood with spectacular views of the mountains and rivers. Luxurious? No way! Wonderful experience? DEFINITELY! Confusing review i know but i don't want to mislead anyone. Perfect to explore New river gorge and the Gauley d/t proximity.
Property is tiny and the only restroom is in the master bedroom. When you walk to it try not to smack your shins into the bedframe (all of us did at some point especially in the middle of the night). Other than that though it was fine. 35 minutes from our white water rafting meetup. It was clean and easy to get into, overall not bad if you're only staying for a single night.
We arrived late in the evening to this property, as we were traveling long hours to get home. Overall, it is a cute apartment. The outdoor picture online is really not very accurate. The house is in a row of many other houses that are squeezed together, and online the house looks like it's sitting by itself. There are also pictures online that show a dock which is not accessible by that property, and you cannot get down to the water. There are pictures online that are obviously taken of some other location. However, it is a beautiful place to look out over the river. When we arrived, the apartment was 80°. There is a window air conditioner but no other way to move the cold air in to the living room or other bedrooms. We were all sweating, I contacted the property owner, Jim, and he advised me that there are other AC availabilities in the main bedroom. Which we never found a box fan or any other plug-in air conditioning in the property. So we called back about 15 minutes later and he never responded at all. I was very displeased with the attentiveness of this property owner. We have stayed in many VRBO and I think this is our fifth of the year. If there were accurate listings about the window air conditioning and an 80° apartment I would not have booked this. We are not 100% confident but do think that the apartment below us was empty. The property owner did not bother to offer that or offer to bring any box fans or anything else. My mom finally fell asleep at 4 am.
My friend and I stayed here for one night. The space was clean and the A/C worked well once turned on. The beds were comfortable.
The kitchen had all the necessary equipment to cook and dine in. The property sits right on the river, but on a steep bank, so don't plan on going to the water's edge. The one downside to this property was its location between two active railroad tracks.
No address provided for the house, but clear directions. Followed the directions to get to the house, and the picture provided was clearly the same house (though taken many years earlier before much wear and tear), so I knew it was the right place (the way the neighborhood is set up it could not have been any other house). The code to the door didn't work, it beeped as incorrect after the 3rd number. I tried the code and the door a few times. As I sat on the porch to reach out to the house's owner (who provided the directions), someone came out the house and said that it was not a house for rent. I spoke with him briefly and he asked about what number is on the door, which is a very specific way to ask if it is a right address, and ironically the picture provided did not have the address on the door in the picture because the door was open and someone was standing in the doorway (how did he know?). Anyways, I left and was not able to stay there.
I state this is a scam because either the owner is renting out a house that is occupied, not his, or misrepresented.
the pictures online show a dock but it is the neighbors. you have no access to it. the pictures also donât show how steep the bank is. itâs extremely difficult to go down. you have to climb through poison ivy. they also didnât tell us that we would be upstairs.
Clean property that we enjoyed, but we wish we had known about the 16 steep stairs up to the entrance. It appears from looking at other listings that VRBO doesn't require or even encourage disclosure of stairs or other barriers. Worked okay for us now, but just a few weeks ago those steps would have made this apartment impossible for me to get into. Would VRBO disclosing stairs a part of listings? In the future I will have to ask specific questions about stairs.
Beautiful views from the property. We had a wonderful time. We had a problem with the heat the first morning and it was attended to immediately. I would definitely stay there again.
