Not sure how this property has so many great reviews. My Girl Scouts chose this house for a final trip before graduation. First, the positive--it does have a fantastic location and the view is amazing. But beyond that, there were several problems with the property and the owner. The property is very old. The deck felt like it was in danger of collapsing. Everything in the house is extremely cheap and old. The kitchen, which many reviews touted, is very low on decent pans, cups, plates, and silverware. If you are staying with 18 people, do not expect to have enough cooking things for those people. Also, 2 of the "beds" are basically window benches with very thin cushions. These would only be good for kids. There were many games in the living room, but not a single one had all the pieces needed to play the game. When I complained to the owner that there were no working can openers, she told me she had just bought 3 brand new ones. One of these brand new can openers had wooden handles and looked like it was 20 years old. One of the girls in my troop started to have some bites on the 3rd day we were there. A friend who is a bed bug expert told me they didn't look like bed bugs and we found no bugs in the bed, so we left it at that, moving the girl out of the bed for the last night. After we got home, we got a note from the owner, riddled with inconsistencies, telling us we had brought in bed bugs and owed $2000. (She said the bed bugs were in the curtains, which explained why we saw no bugs. We are not pest experts.). When I explained that we had been a victim of the bed bugs, not the person who brought them in, she insisted that it was no problem, to just say it was us so that our trip insurance (which we do not have) would pay for her treatment. I sent proof to VRBO of what happened. VRBO has sent her a note to stop asking us for money, but again she has added on a $1,100 bill. VRBO says I don't have to pay this, since it is fraudulent, but she continues to maintain that I have to pay it. I believe she is trying to get someone else to pay to maintain her property. The Buffalo River is a beautiful place. It is hard not to fall in love with the area, but this house is a risk you should not take. You will be at your "wit's end" after your stay.
