I loved this place. It's Art Deco style and is reminiscent of old Miami hotels. Its sister hotel, The Hollander is right next door and has the restaurant and pool area. There is a happy hour every evening with free wine and champagne and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the suite which had a bedroom, living room, small kitchen and bathroom. It's mostly updated, but still has the charm of the vintage hotel. It's not the Ritz, but the charm and history and the cool hotel guests you'll meet more than make up for any shortcomings. Will stay again.
I prefer hard floors (not carpeting)
The shower was horrible, no pressure, intermittent hot water and without a handheld shower made it almost impossible to rinse off !
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The elevator to our building was out of service and we were unfortunately on the 3rd floor, but the 2 flights of stairs were thankfully short and manageable! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will remember this property if back in the area.
This Hotel was a big disappointment. The pictures online are definitely not reflective of the rooms. We had two rooms - one room had an old air conditioning unit that sounded like a bird chirping all night. I complained 3 times about this and each time they "claimed to have fixed it" however the noises got louder and louder, eventually clicking too and then dripping water. In the second room, the shower head fell off while showering, and the overall cleanliness of these rooms was less than acceptable. There was cold water in the showers and the shower didn't drain right- this hotel needs a major overhaul. When asking for assistance, there was one woman at the front desk who was nice and tried to help, however the two men that worked there were snarky and quite frankly rude- less than accommodating. The best part of this hotel, was the hotel next door in which we were able to use the pool, restaurant. Although conveniently located to centra St. Pete's, I would never stay here again. No refrigerators in rooms, fridge for use but only open between 7am-11pm (and we had to leave earlier than that). I have never been so disappointed in a hotel experience. I would have expected some compensation given our experience.
It was just an "okay" stay at Avalon. They offered plenty of bottled water which was nice, but it would be more environmentally responsible to provide water for personal water bottles. The shower curtain and rod fell on me while I was taking a shower which was scary. The staff did her best to assist me to get it back up, but it happened in the evening and the maintenance staff left at 5pm so it had to wait until the next day. She offered a breakfast coupon which was a kind gesture. The room had a very dark closet -- no light as far as I could see-- and the AC made a lot of noise which made it tough to sleep. I don't think I'd stay there again, but I did appreciate the TAP ROOM next door (excellent food, service and super convenient) and the pool was also very nice. So, an okay visit.
Room is too dark only one lampshade and the light from the ceiling fan. Was using my iPhone light to search for stuff ! Bathroom is small. Tall person with average built will have to squeeze themselves in as the toilet is right behind the door. Could up the cleaning factor.
Plus is free parking, free water, friendly receptionists and lobby decor.
