I was aware of the small room size and that didn't really present any issues. The bathroom does take some getting used to but no real issues there either. In fact, it's kind of fun in a way. The main issue and this is a huge one is that the center tower of the hotel is completely open air. That means that the hallways were actually frigid and I am talking see your own breath frigid. The thing that compounds this is that the elevators are incredibly slow, especially during popular hours and crowded, so you end up going from a comfortably heated room, to refrigerated hallway and then you wait for the elevator and shiver. To top it off, the building is 31 stories high and since the center is literally wide open it forms an air shaft, so the cold is amplified and the wind chill factor gets to be stupid. One of the reasons I booked the hotel is that it has a basement onsen, which would have been nice if it wasn't so dirty and if you didn't have to wait in the provided robe while you freeze getting to the hot springs. I mean, I'd be surprised if I don't get some kind of illness just from the ridiculous temperature contrast. In general the staff was OK. Housekeeping was especially nice and hardworking. The front desk people were indifferent at best and probably overw\helmed by the volume of people they deal with. The concierge folks were uniformely courteous. Check in was a hassle, with more forms to fill out and electronic gadgets to deal with, not the best part of anyone's visit.

Everything this is my second time I've come back to Ryogoku Appa Hotel. I absolutely love this area thank the gods I refused to stay in Akhihabara. Every worker there from the staff-to the cleaners deserves a raise. Plus I love the onsen in the Hotel.
