This house is in a good walkable neighborhood with decent access to shops and a train station. However, I was not advised that the host would take a substantial damage deposit at check in, a chunk of which is kept as an admin fee. The listing states “Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees,” which is misleading. Expect a long wait for the deposit refund. A pocket Wi-Fi device was provided for guests, but it was no benefit to us as we had already rented our own.The check-in process was lengthy & more like a reprimand, with the host reiterating the same instructions despite our acknowledgement. Host expressed excessive concern that we might damage the property or steal the toilet, referencing scenarios of playfighting & putting holes in walls. Odd given that we are 2 mature professional adults.The house lacked basic amenities I’ve had in other Tokyo rentals. Only 1 thin towel per person for an 8 day stay, no laundry detergent, no kitchen basics (salt, pepper, tissues, dish towels), and only a single trash bin despite the need to separate garbage in Japan. The pans were not clean, which discouraged us from cooking. The beds were fine, but the blankets were thin and not comfortable. I’ve lived & worked in Japan and have rented other homes in Tokyo; this one felt under-equipped for guests. Location is good but the hidden fees upon arrival and the lack of essentials made our stay less comfortable than expected.
