In an old mining town founded in 1793. So much history going back to the French and Indian wars, the American Revolution. This friendly clean and sweet hotel sits right next to the Youghiogheny River. Down a little road in this old town when you think this “can’t be right”…you find a very nice space, a restaurant next door also overlooking the river is a good place to catch football games and the beer and food is also good. At night we watched the wide river and moon over the hills of the old town, industrial trains bustled on a track on the opposite shore. Also a delicious shop making real Italian coffee just down the street. Indeed warm cozy and comfortable modern hotel and also in the middle of American history. Close to many summer and winter attractions.

Staff on-duty Christmas Eve were attentive and efficient. Allowed a late check-out so that was nice since we were checking out Christmas Day and we didn’t need to feel rushed. However…this is at least the third Christmas Eve we’ve stayed at this hotel. I was shocked at how unprepared the were at the bar. My family typically gathers there after festivities Christmas Eve for a couple of drinks. First year, there were special cocktails, special drinks, FUN! Last year they said there were cocktails but bartender (actually just the desk person) didn’t know how to make any of them. She said she could look them up but we just drank wine. This year, yikes! The list was beers and wine and a “cocktails available” statement. I asked for a Cabernet as the “bartender” said she didn’t know how to make cocktails but could look them up. I figured I’d do what I did last year and just have wine. Unfortunately, no Cabernet…no red wine except Moscoto which is too sweet for me. Okay. I ask what mixers they have. They have tomato juice so I said I’ll have a vodka and tomato juice. There was exactly one shot of vodka in the bottle and no more vodka so could only have one drink! I don’t like much besides vodka so I asked what else they had. She named a few things and said they had Crown Royal apple. My husband likes that so we ordered two of those with ginger ale. NOPE! Less than one shot in the bottle. Manager not prepared for holiday was shameful!
