The house was stunning! It was so peaceful and in a beautiful setting. It was really well equipped and in a great spot for further exploring the area. Patrick was so kind and there when we needed him. Thank you!
Patrick's home is a renovated farmhouse that has been lovingly restored. It has three good-sized bedrooms, all with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. There is also a separate bathroom downstairs. However impressed you may be by the pictures, they don't do the house full justice and it is even more beautiful when you arrive. There is also a large garden, with outdoor eating space. Absolute peace and quiet are very much the order of the day, but if you feel the need for noise then there is nobody within earshot to care. The house also has a log fire for those cold nights and a TV room with one of the largest TVs I've seen. Location-wise, this is the perfect place to stay to visit just about anywhere on the peninsula, with just about everywhere between a 60-90 minute drive. The owner, Patrick, lives locally and is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet. We found Patrick to be very helpful, accommodating, and great for a general chat on the couple of times he popped by to check if we were cold and wanted instructions on using the log fire, or to deliver the very much appreciated gift of ice creams - all this on top of the bottle of wine and ice cream left for our arrival. If we come back to Normandy we would definitely want to stay in Patrick's wonderful home again, and we would recommend to anyone else to do likewise when in the region - you won't regret it.
Patrick was the perfect host and the gite was excellent very rustic just what we needed came back to find a big bag of freshly picked peaches and pears which was a very nice touch.
Wonderfull house with a very kind and friendly host
Big and clean house with a lovely garden and terras. Very quiet surroundings but only 10 minutes drive to the bakery and 15 tot the super market. We enjoyed our stay very much and so did our children of 14,12 and 6 years old. Many thanks to Patrick who was a friendly host and arrangend everything we asked for.
Chose this farmhouse as a secondary option when Covid ruined our original plans. Turned out to be great. We had to delay trip once and owner was very understanding. In addition we were delayed on arrival day and owner was very accommodating. The farmhouse is a very quaint, comfortable, and relaxing escape. We used it as a hub or homebase to explore Normandy - Caen, Bayeux, Omaha Beach, Mont St. Michel, Falaise, all within an hour drive. Etritan, La Havre, and Rouen abit further. Weather was a bit damp and cold so my artistic wife and daughters couldnât take advantage of the classic French countryside and beautiful gardens to work on their impressionist skills, but this was the place for it! We highly recommend if you are looking for a getaway from it all or if you are taking the time to immerse in Normandy.
Due to the changes with the rules on lockdown we were unable to go to France from the UK. However I would say that Patrick was very quick in his responses and has allowed us to move the trip to later in the year, which was much appreciated. Thank you
The property is amazing. Spacious, well furnished and very comfortable. Whilst itâs in a perfect secluded rural setting, there is a small town with all the necessary facilities and shops just a 5-10min drive away.
Patrick was a wonderful host. Not intrusive but always nearby should you need anything. The wine and cheese left in the fridge for us was a really nice touch.
Iâd definitely like to visit again in the summer...
Thank you Patrick!
This 1800th century farm house situated in the peaceful Normandy countryside, is a gem. Itâs location while perfect for a restful vacation, is also within easy driving distance of many of the most popular tourist destinations of Normandy and Brittany.
Patrick is a most welcoming and amenable host who is readily available for any questions or concerns. The thoughtful touch of providing Normandy butter, cream and wine on our arrival was greatly appreciated. Not to mention the peaches, picked from trees on the property, which arrived at our doorstep one morning.
We were a party of 4 - ( two couples ), who throughly enjoyed our recent five nights stay in late Sept. and who would absolutely consider returning for a longer stay in the future.
Our sincere thanks to Patrick and Margaret for allowing us to enjoy their beautiful property.
Lovely house and lush garden, many things to do in the area
This house is lovely decorated and has a very nicely surpising lay-out. The lush garden only increases the holiday feeling. The house is clean and spacious with lovely classical furniture. Activities in the surrounding area that we would recommend:
- walking in the quick sand (with a guide (eg via Getaguide) around Mont St Michel
- American cemetery at Omaha beach
- Bayeux tapissery with (free) audiotour
- Walking around Roche dâOĂ«tre
It's a lovely house with a beautiful garden within easy car-reach of several Normandy villages, Mont Saint Michel, the WW2 beaches and much more. Patrick was easy to reach and a good host. We would absolutely recommend this house.
This farmhouse is amazing! Patrick is a great host. The farmhouse is 3 levels. The main level has the dining room, living room, kitchen, bathroom. The next level has one bedroom with ensuite bathroom which provide beautiful views of the garden. The top level has 2 bedrooms with their own bathrooms which also have great views. There is patio furniture in the front and back of the house as well. Walking around the yard is very pleasant and peaceful. The labor of love put into this home is felt as soon as you walk through the door and it is amazing!
The architecture and interior design of the property was absolutely breathtaking and serene.
Separately set from the well furnished kitchen, the dinning room whose ancient stone walls adorned with traditional wall hangings afforded the ideal place to enjoy local food and wine purchased from the village, whilst admiring the views of nature beyond the french doors. Retiring to the lounge area, whose dramatic triple height vaulted ceilings and stone walls were also adorned with wonderful tapestries which depicted historical french lifestyle and could be appreciated from the comfort of a unique semicircular french deco style arm chairs and sofa. Within easy reach of the open plan kitchen with every refreshment close at hand, the enchanting gardens beckons you to enjoy the natural wonders it inherits. One could see vast open farmlands at every view. On returning from the garden , I decided to watch a short documentary on television and sent some emails, it was unexpected but great to have such good internet The upstairs bedrooms were all decorated with beautiful traditional french furniture and incredibly comfortable beds prepared with fresh linens . The instant hot water in the power showers was a welcome way to bath before looking at the stars through a telescope that was thoughtfully left for those of us who enjoy the wonders of the universe. I absolutely loved every moment here and will consider it my home from home.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house has been lovingly restored inside and has a huge unfenced garden outdoors with views over the surrounding countryside. The owners, Patrick and Margaret were very friendly and welcoming. The house was clean and well equipped.
We found there was plenty to do in the area - for active holiday goers there is kayaking, pedalos and Via Ferrara/climbing half an hour away in Clecy or field luge, bungee jumps and zip wires in the Viaduc de Soulevre. Cultural highlights included Caen (half an hour away) and Mont St Michel (further but worth a visit - you need a whole day to enjoy it properly).
The nearest village, Vassy is 5 minutesâ drive away and caters for essentials with 2 bakeries (delicious fresh bread and pastries), butcher and well stocked supermarket. There are other interesting larger towns a bit further away. Vire looked like a bustling French town with nice shops and restaurants not far away but we only drove through.
All in all a tres jolie vacance Francais!
We had a couple of lovely weeks in Normandy, in an area we love, but there were problems and the owner, Patrick, wasnât around to deal with anything.
Things didnât start well: we arrived at the house at around 1030pm. We were tired and very grubby! having travelled for a day-and-a-half from the USA. We found the house, which really is in the middle of nowhere, there were no lights on, the TV didnât work and there was no hot water.
We spoke to Patrick who apologized and told us that the woman who prepares the house had been diagnosed with a serious condition, so he didnât like to press her too much!
We went to bed that night, having had cold showers. The beds were very uncomfortable! I think whoever had washed the sheets had used too much detergent; the sheets were scratchy and uncomfortable.
The next day it became clear that the door on the fridge freezer compartment was broken and needed careful handling. We read a note in the guest folder, from former renters, apologizing for breaking the door and telling Patrick that theyâd left him 50 Euros hoping that this would cover the cost of the repair. Obviously, Patrick had taken the money and had clearly not done the repair. This was the âdamageâ that he told us he was withholding our ÂŁ40 to get repaired!
There were a number of other problems: Patrickâs listing says that the house has Wi-Fi. We had Wi-Fi for the first week. It stopped working one day and never came back. We spoke to Patrick on another occasion, to ask where the BBQ was. He told me that it was behind the shed and that it was filthy (his word). He admitted that heâd seen it before he left, but he âhadnât had time to clean itâ. We cleaned it - it was in a disgusting state. We used it and then cleaned it again and left it ready for the next renters.
Because Patrick was away in the UK - and he had no one in the village who could come and sort out any issues, like the power going off (only at the house,) we were on our own when problems did occur. The house is very isolated - the nearest town/restaurant/shop/bar is a 15-20 minutes drive away. You really have to love the peace and quiet to stay here.
We sent Patrick an email a week ago, pointing out that the freezer door was broken when we arrived and quoting the written message in HIS welcome folder. So far, heâs ignored all attempts to get the balance of our deposit paid.
We've written both to the owner and VRBO but not had even the courtesy of a response!
sehr sauberes und gepflegtes Haus.. tolle Umgebung.. sehr schöner Garten..
hat uns sehr gut gefallen .. Die Vermieter sind sehr nett und immer hilfsbereit wenn man eine Frage hat.
A beautifull house with a big garden. Very clean and well equipet.
The friendly owner is sometimes walking around, but that is no problem at all. We were with 7 persons (instead of 6) and that fitted well. (Brought our own 7th bed with us).
Very quiet, the only thing you sometimes hear are the sheeps of the neighebours:-)
