This apartment is very comfortable and well kept. We had everything we needed including a yard for my grandson to play in. There was also a grill and fire pit in the backyard for our use. I would stay here again. The location isnât within walking distance to the silo area, which I would have preferred. Otherwise, everything was perfelt!
First, we went on the Waco tour, and this house is a stop on the tour. So it was fun hearing about the house before we stayed inside. And then, once inside, we watched Fixer Upper, S1 Ep 2 and that made the house come to life! It's definitely worth staying here, especially if you're a fan of the show. See the shiplap up close! Charmaine was quick to respond to my questions regarding check in and check out.
We enjoyed all!!! The only thing i would suggest is in the full bath upstairs correct the peeling ceiling and a heavier shower curtain as with magnets you have to fight with it -- the shower head is Great!
This property is a 2 story garage apartment. Parking was a bit tricky because there are narrow, walled entrances and exits to get into and out of the driveway. A large truck may not be able to do so. The neighborhood surrounding the house is a bit rough. There was loud music across the street and cars revving up their engines. The evening we arrived, there were other guests staying in the main house and it was difficult to park and open all 4 doors of my car because we had to park in between the two cars. Upon entering the house, we encountered an issue and contacted the owner-who responded immediately. The following day she had someone come check on the issue. However, the issue persisted and that really put a damper on our stay. The full bath has a cosmetic issue in that paint is peeling from the ceiling in large pieces. The shower feels like a power washer and it's definitely in need of a new shower curtain. The stairwell could use more lightening because it's very dark. Other than that, the two bedrooms were sufficient and we slept well. Communication with the owner was excellent! Also, it's easy to get to other places around Waco from the apartment.,
Area spotty but honestly, not a soul bothered us. And in Waco, all the area is spotty. Main house is pretty on outside. Donât know about inside. Garage house is nice outside and Inside. Inside has pretty steep stairs - just in case you donât do stairs. But they didnât really bother us. Kitchen small and usable downstairs, plus a powder room. You have to step up to get out of the kitchen so watch that step. I put a nightlight out so I could see it at night. I kept forgetting. Upstairs has loft living area. Small but very doable. 2 bedrooms with nice beds, but firm. Slept fine. Bathroom connects to one of the bedrooms. All-in-all we had a nice stay. Itâs really best for 2 people as seating is limited. But I went with a friend and we had a pretty good trip. Would I recommend? Yes. Itâs âoldâ but not outdated or âgross.â No bugs. Clean linens. Clean everything. And the owner is very friendly.
We had a great time visiting Waco. The house was very comfortable and clean and the host communicated all of our needs. It was a short drive to Baylor University. We would absolutely stay here again!
Probably because of the misleading title on VRBO, I expected to see a touch of Gaines' magic. Sorry, only the big house was redone years ago. It is now, from the outside, in need of painting and maintenance. But back to the garage apt. Our welcome was tempered by the difficulty of squeezing past parked cars on the gravel driveway in order to reach our entrance door. The driveway has such an angled access from 20th St. we were afraid of scraping the underside of our car. We ended up parking in front of a neighbor's house.
The garage apt. is very small. A downstairs kitchen is fully equipped but narrow, with stool seating for 3 at a hightop. A steep stairway has a handrail on the lower section and a wobbly railing above, leading up to a common area (w/the unit's only tv), a bathroom, and two bedrooms. The beds are comfortable but very tall, and the smaller bedroom has scarcely enough room to maneuver between the bed and the wall.
The location, not too far from downtown, is fine. The street is a little sketchy in parts, but the block we were in felt safe and quiet.
Upon leaving, be aware that you are expected to:
1) carry all trash outside, separating recyclables; 2) strip the linens off the beds;
3) begin laundry of towels in an unlit garage annex where detergent is not readily apparent;
4) tidy the kitchen/bathroom/closets so you are not charged an additional fee for owner-determined incidentals like stolen hangers.
Next time? A hotel.
My niece and I spent one night at the garage apartment. The property has a cozy feel and is very nice. The accommodations were very comfortable. Charmaine was quick with her responses to any messages.
The garage apartment is cute and decorated well. Charmaine was very responsive and easy to reach. Loved the touch of multiple coffee creamer flavors and snacks!
We had a small 40th celebration for a friend and went to a concert at The Backyard. Location of property was awesome, close to downtown. Charmaine was an awesome host, great communication & allowed early check in to decorate for birthday. She had the house stocked with little snacks, coffee and water. Guest house was cute, comfy and clean. Will definitely recommend to others.
Perfect stay for a birthday outing in Waco. Loved the treats in the cute kitchen in the guest house! Charmaine was communicative and thorough and left us a nice welcome note!
