The property was beautiful. Up until we arrived, the host was very communicative, kind and helpful. However, the first night we were there we found a bed bug. We were unable to get in touch with the host during our stay — she was away in another state without service, and we weren't able to connect with her until we were checking out. We contacted the caretaker for advice during our stay and he was also unable to get a hold of the host. He did apologize for the situation over the phone. We did as thorough a search of the property as we could, and cleaned as much as possible. No one came to check the property while we were there, despite sending photos of the bed bug to the host/caretaker and expressing our concern/uncertainty about what to do. We were unable to use 6 of the beds as a result of where we found the bug. We had nowhere else to go with such a large group. The host offered 200 as a refund for this situation. The house was otherwise lovely and the host had been responsive up until the weekend we stayed. Our frustration was largely with the lack of communication/action during our stay and the stress/uncertainty everyone left the weekend with in regard to the status of bed bugs in the home.
