Pub was closed due to staffing shortage when we arrived. Had to wait an hour to be let in. Manager was very apologetic but it made us late for a meal we had booked.
Room pleasant but cold on arrival. Did not warm appreciably despite oil radiator being switched on. Towel rail not working so bathroom cold. No toiletries. Evening meal pleasant and catered for dietary needs. Room still cold after meal and radiators went off at around 21:00 Slept fully clothed to keep warm! Room again cold in morning and then discovered no breakfast available.
I can't really fault it. The property is nice, staff were really nice, the room was just what we hoped for. We had a lovely evening meal followed by a good nights sleep. Breakfast options were all cooked options, although I'm not a breakfast eater so only had some toast.
Nice, pub, pretty village, pleasant room, ok service, food ok. So far so goodâŠ..
Was asked to complete breakfast choices and time the night before. Arrived for breakfast at 8am as agreed to find nobody about. Waited in the dining room for over 20 minutes, checked reception and the bar area but there wasnât a soul to be found and certainly no smells coming from the kitchen to suggest any food was cooking. Left after half an hour as was clear nobody was bothering. Even in some of the worst hotels Iâve stayed in, theyâve at least turned up to cook and serve breakfast.
Appreciate it may have been a staffing issue but Iâve heard nothing from them since to apologise or offer recompense.
I have stayed here before and the whole experience is good so I keep coming back. The food is very good and the Mason's Yorkshire Gin and Tonic is a work of art. The Forrester's is located in a beautiful village close to the White Horse carved into the hillside. Mouseman furniture is right next door and is also worth a visit.
Kilburn is a beautiful little town, and the Forresters Arms is a nice, quiet place to stay. The rooms are decent enough for a place to rest your head for the night after you're done exploring the beautiful countryside. The staff is friendly, but at times, I felt they were unnecessarily stressed and frenzied. Just the vibe I got. I'm pretty tall, so I had to duck around the place. However, since it's an old historic building, that was expected. Overall, I'd stay here again. The price is decent, the location is excellent, and the food is good too.
Friendly staff & warm welcome
Allocated room was above restaurant - so was a little noisy (mainly from the piped music)
Food was very good with interesting & varied items on the menu
