Die schönsten Autoreisen durch die Schweiz
The world-famous natural beauties of Switzerland can be enjoyed particularly well on a drive in the car. A multi-day tour is worthwhile, but even if you have less time, you can discover impressive mountains and wonderful lakes.
Furka Pass
In one of the most spectacular car chases in film history, Sean Connery steered his Aston Martin DB5 through the hairpin bends of the Furka in the film Goldfinger . Do like James Bond and drive the 70 kilometers from Brig to Andermatt - albeit at a more leisurely pace.
From Davos to Lugano
The 290 kilometer section of the Grand Tour through Switzerland from the meeting point of the jet set in Graubünden to the shores of Lake Lugano is particularly scenic. Countless sights await you along the route, from the National Park near Zernez to the picturesque Engadine houses to the spectacular Viamala Gorge.
From Gstaad to Lucerne
Make a stop in Interlaken and take the cog railway to Schynige Platte to see the Bernese giants Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau up close. The journey continues along Lake Thun to Bern and through Entlebuch to Lucerne. A tour in a steamboat on Lake Lucerne is the perfect way to end this 310-kilometer tour.
Great St. Bernhard
Instead of the tunnel, in summer you take the mountain route that leads to the 2,469 meter high pass, the third highest pass road in Switzerland. At the top is the hospice, which was founded in 1050 by Saint Bernard of Aosta. In the hospice you can see the famous rescue dogs - Barry was the star among them - which were bred here and which saved many stray travelers from freezing with a drink from the liquor keg.
Grimsel Pass
The rugged cliffs and serpentines that lead down to the Rhone on the Valais side of the Grimsel Pass are even more striking than on the Furka. The journey between Innertkirchen and Gletsch is one of the most beautiful mountain routes in Switzerland.
Simplon Pass
The Simplon Pass, which leads from Brig to Domodossola in the Italian region of Piedmont at around 2,000 meters above sea level, is winter-proof. Although the pass road is officially one of the national roads, it can also be used by bike. Shortly before the border, it is worth visiting the Gondo Gorge.
Gotthard Pass
Because of its central importance in the history of Switzerland's origins, the 2 106 meter high Gotthard Pass is a symbol of the country's identity. From the Devil's Bridge in the Schöllenen Gorge to the new resort in Andermatt to the infamous Tremola Street, there is so much to see along the pass road.
Bernina Pass
Crossing the pass between Pontresina and Poschiavo is particularly impressive when you take the Rhaetian Railway's Bernina Express. At 2,253 meters, this railway line, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the highest railway transversal in the Alps. Going by car has the advantage that you can take a photo of the famous circular viaduct of Brusio just before the Italian border.
Susten Pass
The Susten is not a north-south axis, but connects the cantons of Uri and Bern. The pass road was built for military reasons and is mainly used for tourism today. When it was built during the war years 1939-46, great emphasis was placed on aesthetics. Local materials were used by hand to create a handcrafted masterpiece. Driving in cloudy weather has a special charm, when there are fewer cars and motorbikes and dark fir trees greet mysteriously from the fog.
