The Susten is not a north-south axis, but connects the cantons of Uri and Bern. <\/span>The pass road was built for military reasons and is mainly used for tourism today. <\/span>When it was built during the war years 1939-46, great emphasis was placed on aesthetics. <\/span>Local materials were used by hand to create a handcrafted masterpiece. <\/span>Driving in cloudy weather has a special charm, when there are fewer cars and motorbikes and dark fir trees greet mysteriously from the fog.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
