I knew going into it that the room wasn’t going to be great. I mainly booked with this hotel because of its advertised “history and charm”. I then later find out that is no longer as well - definitely not worth the price you pay, even if it’s cheaper than most other options. The pictures online are areas no longer open to the public. They turned any beautiful it had left into a private night club for members only. Even the front desk picture on their website is false advertising. The “new lobby” in the basement is as bland as it gets. No water, no coffee. No life to it at all. The rooms are unbelievably small with dorm style mattresses where you can feel every spring. The bedding is bare minimum and not comfortable at all. The bathroom was shared and dirty, lacking any extra amenities besides the absolute bare minimum. I was awoken every 20 minutes throughout the night to doors slamming or people walking past our room. The walls are so thin that you can hear everything. Like I said, I originally booked it for the history and charm and was going to let the rest slide but I was highly disappointed that it didn’t even include that. I couldn’t wait to leave in the morning. I’d recommend spending the extra $100 and staying elsewhere.

I stayed in The Jane Hotel countless times between 2008 and 2023. It was quirky and always an interesting time. I knew that the property sold a couple of years ago and a private club was taking over the public spaces. I waited for the transition to be completed and decided that last weekend would be the right time to revisit my old haunt, so to speak. Sadly, I have no words to accurately describe what is happening there now. It is not business as usual as the hotel website pictures suggest. Yes they send an email prior stating that there is construction in the area (I guess across the street as the hotel project seems complete). Staying there now feels like you are paying to sleep in the middle of the staging area for the private club, complete with employees chatting, laughing, banging and scrambling throughout the new hotel entrance and hallways. Some hotel rooms are used for offices and others are used for storage. The entire weekend a clothing rack was placed adjacent to the elevator, limiting passage for the guests and the employees (breaking fire code?). There was no regard for the guests paying to sleep in nearby rooms. Even the basics were a hot mess - there was little little to no hot water the entire time I was there, the fire alarm repeatedly sounded one night, and I understand that internet and elevator services have been intermittent in the past as well.

The Jane Hotel was the worst lodging experience I've ever had. The community bathroom (two showers, two toilets for a floor of some 25 rooms) was not mentioned on the Expedia website about the hotel. On Thursday night, a man down the hall was cursing loudly for two hours to the extent that I couldn't fall asleep. Later that night, I spotted a cockroach in the toilet area. On Friday night 10/17/25 I went to bed at 10:45 p.m. and a maintenance man woke me up at 11:30, knocking on my door by mistake because the room next door was leaking water from the ceiling; for the next two hours I heard grunts and the sounds of buckets slamming and water sloshing. The window in my room didn't close properly and I was cold all night. I barely slept. The hotel is in an excellent location but its services should be suspended immediately by the NYC health department.

The images used in hotels.com are deceiving, as the rooms are the size of a train suite, extremely small. Beware if you’re traveling with family. Water in showers was not hot enough. Not ADA friendly.

Please read until the end. This hotel is one of the most affordable in Manhattan. It's conveniently located near some river side trails, and the Highline Trail which is a must see. There's underground city parking (not affiliated with the hotel at all) right next door. Be prepared to pay over $200 to park there for any long period of time. The hallways are small and so are the basic rooms. You will have to use a community bathroom, but they are clean. They provide a robe for you to use. I would suggest making sure that you have flip flops or slippers. The doors to the shower room and toilet room both lock. All of that being said, I would NEVER stay there again because the hotel has BEDBUGS! At least my room did, and I can't imagine that I was the only unlucky one. I was itching and developing whelps on my arms, ankles, neck, and head very shortly after the second night. I'm still itching four days later. The cheap price isn't worth it. Pay the extra money to stay at a more expensive hotel, find one a ways away and take the commuter train in, or if you have no other option, bring a good sleeping bag, and possibly your own pillows. A word to the wise.
