This is an okay place to stay for one night when arriving in or leaving from Costa Rica. It is very basic and nothing has been replaced in decades, but it is clean and they do their best to take care of the place. The rooms are between two bars, so the partying is loud and continues into the night. The rooms are inside the grounds of one of the bars, but once the bar is closed for the night, the fence is closed and the gate is locked. My friend and slept soundly there and woke early to take a taxi to the airport, to which the lady at the front kindly arranged the night before. An older gentleman unlocked the fence for us and stood guard until our taxi arrived. There were several restaurants we walked to in about 5-10 minutes. I felt comfortable staying with a friend, but I may have felt a little nervous going out at night by myself. I heard an iguana crawling around inside the roof for a minute just before bedtime, but I think he settled down and went to sleep too.
Although the room was small and simple, it was clean, comfortable, and with good A/C. No hot water but who needs it in 33 degree heat. A bit noisy from the adjacent bar, but no problem with ear plugs. Good food in the attached restaurant. The staff were fabulous - friendly and super helpful and went out of their way.
This place was gross. Our room had ripped sheets, stained bed cover, a cigarette butt among other dirt (despite a no smoking sign in the room) on the ground. I am generally fine staying in budget places and donât need much but it was hard to stay in this room. On the flip side, the people working here were lovely and the bar/lounge area was decent/clean. I spent as much time as I could there before I had to go into the room to sleep.
El aire acondicionado suena mucho. La habitaciĂłn no le llegaba acceso a red y no habĂa aviso de cĂłmo conectarse al wifi. Regrese a recepciĂłn y me
Indicaron cómo conectarme. El baño no tiene ducha por donde sale el agua es solo el tubo. Al abrir la puerta para entrar a la habitación (17) el ingreso es por el baño.
We have just stayed twice at this hotel (2 days in the beginning of our trip and 2 days at the end).
You pretty much get what you paid for. The rooms are very basic, but clean.
PROS: The best thing were the guys at the reception. They were very friendly and helpful answering any question we had. The AC worked perfectly and was very quiet, the TV also worked well. The location was excellent. We had the opportunity to meet the owner, Sonia, and she was professional and pleasant. On our second stay, the matresses were more comfortable.
CONS: The worst asset of this hotel was the morning girl at the reception. She was rude, unpleasant and unprofessional. That by itself, turned any experience to bad. A few points to notel: there was no hot water and it was pretty noisy in the night. You can hear everything that is going on outside.
All in all, it is a reasonable place if you need a cheap place to sleep close to the centre and bus stations
I'm a longtime patron of the Hotel Guanacaste. I'm glad to see it's had a recent renovation. My only complaint is that the restaurant/bar next door played loud music late into the night. But it was a Friday night, and I was especially tired from my bus trip. I will stay there again without hesitation.
You get the price of what you pay, if you are looking just for a place to sleep and go then this is ok, no hot water, no shampoo and expect bugs and mosquitoes in your room. Close to amenities. Staff was friendly
