Lovely motel in a remote destination

Not a lot of choices in Hanksville, but don't worry because this motel is a lovely spot to stay. Super comfortable beds, nicely updated rooms. Would definitely stay again.

We spent 4 nights at the Whispering Sands Motel, using as a base to hike in and near Goblin Valley State Park. The room is spacious, very clean and well maintained. The beds are comfortable, and the refrigerator is large for a hotel and has a small freezer that actually works. Though we didn't ask to have our room cleaned, they emptied the trash, gave us clean towels and replenished the coffee daily, which we appreciated. We had a few small requests for the office, all of which were dealt with promptly and cheerfully. The only small issue was the wood floors, which are nice, but also transmit sound from next door rooms when people arrive late or depart early (clomping of footsteps). This was minor and we'd stay there again.

The room looked like it was in the middle of a renovation. Toilet paper holder was falling off the wall. No battery in the smoke detector. Dirty baseboards. Generally needed drywall finished and a fresh coat of paint. I know not everyone agrees on how firm a bed should be, but the bed was very firm (not comfortable after a day of hiking) and so were the pillows.
