The staff was great - very warm! The location is very convenient: Walking distance (if you like to walk) to theaters, amazing restaurants, and the subway. We didn't make it to the rooftop bar, but the restaurant on the second floor was reasonably priced and our dinner was great. The rooms are, of course, quite small. But we were very comfortable, and really liked the decor. My sole complaint is regarding the hotel industry's baffling commitment to showers that allow water to get all over the bathroom floor. As expected, the bathroom itself is small. The shower within the bathroom: small. That's fine! But I had to cower on one side of the stall and keep my movements to a minimum lest water flow down to my elbow and escape outside the shower. Yes, they do provide a floor towel, but it quickly got soaked. Cue the subclinical trauma of stepping out onto a wet towel, failing to sop up all the water on the floor, forgetting the floor is wet and walking in there with socks on, etc. etc. Truly though, if you can get past the wet floor situation - and you'll have to, because it's no different at any other hotel, even many of the really fancy ones - this is a great hotel. We would definitely stay there again!

We spent a few nights at the Civilian Hotel and it was lovely! Our room was on the 18th floor and overlooked 8th Ave. The room was clean, pretty spacious (for NYC) and comfortable. The only things we didn't especially love were the frosted glass door for the restroom (we'd like a little more privacy) and the shades in the room did not seem to align well with the window, allowing some light to enter. Neither of these things were a big deal to us. We had our room serviced 1 time during our stay. We had hoped for service a 2nd time, but were somehow missed. It was super easy to get replacement towels and the staff was very friendly and helpful when we inquired. The location was PERFECT for us. It is an easy walk to Broadway, Times Square, and Central Park. We enjoyed checking out restaurants on 8th and 9th, as they tended to be a bit less crowded and expensive as some of the ones on 7th and down. We will definitely stay here again on our next NYC visit.

The hotel is very cute and seemed very clean at first. Unfortunately, on our last day, we pulled down the sheets on one of the beds to check for a missing pair of socks and discovered a feces-stained sheet (that was, to be clear, from a prior guest). We will not be returning to this hotel.

This was a nice hotel. The room was clean and renovated. My room was small but it was plenty for the one night we stayed. We popped in to town to see Christmas lights, shop and eat for the day and this hotel was close enough to everything including transportation. I would definitely stay again in the future.
