I apologize as I will try and keep this not long, but as the staff would laugh, after my husband and I staying for a week, already know that is a hard task for me. The staff were what make this hotel feel special. This home town feel where everyone knows your name like the tv show Cheers is just incredible. They joke, they honor, they put in the effort on purpose. I want to point out the most lovely as all were lovely but the most loveliest is Sonya. Second comes Russell. Jullian is third as he is usually the one at night that brings his calmness to a lady whose nights have been more than dark. When I couldnât sleep I would walk over and get ice, water or whatever. He was always kind and never made me feel dumb for being awake so late. I have ptsd from a horrible situation I wonât bore you with. This staff completely disarmed my fears every time I over talked or felt silly for talking. Lindsey the little fairy princess as I refered to her as never hesitated to serve. Sam was always there to offer her kindness and service when working as well. Im horrible with names so forgive but there are two other gentlemen and I mean gentlemen I have sweet treats to because they were so sweet. They know who they are as i didnât gift everyone something just the ones whom went out of their way to show kindness because they felt something was going on inside. Thats real service and canât be taught! Donât lose these people! In fact it husband and I owned the place, we would give them a raise!
The hotel is looking a bit tired and our room was a bit shabby. What really let us down was that we got a family room to sleep 3, but the 3rd bed was terrible. It was not a mattress or fold out bed but what looked like the back bit of a sofa with a sheet on it! It was very hard and uncomfortable and not full length. It was so uncomfortable that our kid had to sleep in the bed and one of us on the floor but the bed thing was not long enough. Basically, it was very uncomfortable and meant one of us adults got little sleep. When we checked out, we gave this feedback. The man on reception apologized and said âwe know they are not great / comfy and are on our list to replaceâ. So if they know, why sell that as a family room?? Why knowingly provide an uncomfortable 3rd bed? A good nights sleep is essential for a traveling family but we left tired and not feeling like we got our monies worth.
Loved every minute of this stay. Wish I had longer as I missed breakfast due to an early start. Stunning location and views. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful food. Can't wait to go back
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the location was fantastic,
However the hotel is in need of attention, the rusting sign on the roof when you drive in is not a good start, the loss chipping from the drive are spilling out onto the road and looks a mess, the room was just about clean enough but the windows in the bathroom were both painted shut and the silicon
Onsite parking which is good and a great welcome by staff. The bedroom was compact but a superb view of the Bass Rock and sea. However the decor was abmismal. On one side of the very dark coloured wall there were loads of scuffs right along the wall. Also the curtains were crushed and mis-matched. It was like someone had just taken them out of their wrapping and hung them straight up.
The best thing was sitting in the hot tub overlooking the North Sea & hearing the waves coming in & feeling the fresh sea breeze around our faces while our bodies were warm underwater!!!
The evening meal was exceptional, the options, the quality & especially the presentation with taste to match.
Breakfast was also lovely. No supplement for the more unusual options & good service too.
Room was lovely, big, comfortable bed, both a bath & a shower. Well appointed.
All in all a great stay for our anniversary.
Iâm not an independent hotel/B&B guy. I normally stay in one of the franchise hotels. But, I needed a room for 2 nights and it was during the Fringe and the Oasis weekend. This meant all hotel prices were CRAZY (>ÂŁ200 for a night at a Premier Inn - I donât think so!)
The Bayswell had a room with a sea view(beautiful) including breakfast for ÂŁ90 via Expedia.
My room was sufficient. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good.
My room was definitely not the sort of room you would spend any time in, other than to sleep and wash/shower. This wasnât a problem for me, as Iâd booked what was probably one of the smaller/cheaper rooms.
My room was hot, but not enough to stop me sleeping.
Breakfast was nice. The ingredients were all of good quality, with my only negative comments being the one piece of sorry looking bacon and cold beans served the first morning. I went for bacon and egg on toast the second morning and received two lovely slices of bacon.
Was it worth ÂŁ90 ? During the Fringe/OASIS = Yes. But Iâd say the quality of MY room was lower than a typical Premier Inn.
I did find the wifi to be close to useless. Most times failing to connect and when it did it was painfully slow. This was both from my room and in the breakfast area.
All the staff were very friendly.
A good one night stay, with a beautiful see view. Our room was in need of some TLC and a deep clean but the view made up for that. It was a bit expensive for what it was but that could be due to proximity to Edinburgh and the busy Fringe month. The breakfast was lovely and all the hotel staff were very friendly.
