Stayed at beginning and end of my trip. Both different experiences. First night I was on first floor. Roof was very short which was fine for me but if you were over 6ft might be an issue. I was above the bar so not recommended for light sleepers. I slept great with a noise al machine. Last night was 3rd floor. Much taller ceilings, but bathroom had a septic smell would have complained but was only one night. I kept the door closed to the bathroom and was fine. Over alll, I loved the atmosphere and cute rooms. I would stay again. Location is awesome and rooms are fun.

Not accessible had to take elevator and then two flights of stairs with two large suitcases. Nice location but room was small, cramped and very noisy as room was above a pub; also loud inside and you could hear the people in the next room talking and slamming doors. Only a radiator for heat that I found the following day after a freezing evening. Breakfast was very good. The morning staff member, Hoi, was very helpful and made an effort to help find another room. She was also knowledgeable about places to see and assisted us with directions,

Nice property - very convenient to everything in old town. Even on the 1st floor the bar noise wasn’t loud (Thursday and Friday night stay). Great water pressure!

The bar that is attached to the hotel operates until 1am. The room I booked was above said bar and staff could not ask that the base be turned down. Lying in a bed with base pounding was obnoxious and distressing.(until 1am on a Tuesday night). I have stayed at the Grass Matket hotel many times over the years and never experienced this before. Waking up then to the smell of fried onions through the vent was another addition to have me change future accommodations. I was traveling solo so I booked a smaller room, the room itself was clean and simple. Not worth the distress of not being able to sleep!

Location, location, location! This hotel’s location seriously can’t be beat. On the corner of the colorful Victoria Street and walking distance to the castle. The grassmarket is a lively area to visit with its pubs and shops.The view of the castle at night is remarkable. If you’re looking for quiet, peaceful nights, though, this might not be the location for you.

The beds were very comfortable and the room had all that we needed. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located in the heart of Edinburgh within walking distance of most everything and bus transportation is just across the street. Wa erly Train station is within walking distance also.

Outstanding stay at The Grassmarket Hotel. Large group of 2 families with 14 people total so had four quad rooms. Very convenient location, spacious rooms, helpful staff! Is near bars but we didn’t find noise to be a problem as some others have. Highly recommend!

I liked the location in the heart of a vibrant part of town. The two staff people we met were both friendly and helpful. The hotel is a little similar to a Citizen M (small, bare-bones rooms) but not as new looking or tech-focused, and without the common sitting areas. . It was clean, comfortable and good enough for one night. What I wished was different: we had to take an old elevator up one floor, then wind our way around, take a flight of stairs up to another floor, then wind our way to our room. Narrow halls and many fire doors to pass through. We were on the second floor and could just barely hear the pub below, as well as a few late night partiers on the street. If sensitive to noise, ask about a higher floor, or ask front desk for ear plugs. They keep a supply on hand.
