This is an older property that is in the process of being remodeled, but as a result the property often has only one elevator operating. Also, the property is located close to a train and trolley station, so there is always a lot of noise.

I like Hampton Inn, because they have comfortable beds and a great breakfast! I have never had an issue! However, I requested and paid for a King size bed and did not get. We were there around 1 pm to leave our luggage and they let us store them, but could not check-in yet. Possibly between 230 and 3 pm we could check in early. We were unable to do that due to a prior commitment, got there around 515pm to check-in. When we went to our room we were given 2 full beds and were assigned the last room closest to the coaster! I went downstairs to inform I had reserved a King size bed. The rep informed me they were already booked up. No other rooms available. Other people were checking in after us. Said she couldn’t do anything since they were full. Requested to speak to a Supervisor and told me they would not be available until the following morning. As mentioned, the Hampton inn is always a great place to stay. The room I got was nice, but I did not get my King size bed. Even though, we were close to the coaster, it was still ok.

Parking garage is a scam. Clearly has been under construction for a very very long time. Not well taken care of. Couldn’t find PAID parking for 30 minutes. Representative said “first come first serve parking” but m’am. I paidd for a spot. Why do I have to wait for paid parking spot. Still awaiting for a refund on $60 2-night parking.

The outside of the hotel was very rundown looking. The water wasn’t working at check in and the room did not lock. The toilet ran continuously after the water was turned back on unless you jiggled the handle. Also our view out our window was a brick wall 5 feet away. Breakfast was fine and the carpet looked recently updated. If visiting San Diego again I would find a different hotel.

The staff was excellent. The front desk got me in my room a little early. I really appreciated that since I had been waiting in the area since 10 AM. The room is clean, but they’re doing major construction on the hotel and surrounding areas. Overall a good budget out location, location, location. It’s literally a 10 minute walk to the pier if you are taking a cruise. Breakfast was above average for a free breakfast. A lot of variety! I am happy with this stay.

Unfortunately, our stay was negatively impacted by a serious plumbing issue. We woke up to find the sink covered in black dirt/mud, making the room unsanitary and unusable. Maintenance was unable to resolve the issue, and there was no clear timeline for repair. While staff were polite and apologetic, the situation disrupted our entire day, especially since we were preparing to leave the following day. We were offered a room change, but this should never happen in the first place, particularly at a hotel of this standard. Cleanliness and basic hygiene are non-negotiable, and this experience fell short. I hope management takes steps to prevent future guests from dealing with similar issues.

The room was a little loud, we were on the second floor, facing the trolley. I’ve stayed in worse, though. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was great, and the location can’t be beat!

Staff was excellent, good/ fair room prices. Liked the breakfast, room was clean and spacious. Great location across from park, about a 5 minute walk to Little Italy. What you should know, $40 parking per night, no early check in, 4pm which is the latest I have seen, fridge has no temperature control knob, no microwave, my room faced a vacant lot that was not the hotel's, it was an eyesore, piles of trash, broken concrete, dead brush etc. still I would return and recommend this hotel. The pluses outweighed over anything negative.

The staff and willingness to make us comfortable was outstanding!! Getting around the location was a little tough… Only one elevator working during the day because of renovations, and there was not a stairway to avoid that elevator quandary that would not take you directly to the lobby without going outside first made it inconvenient all the way around… If you have time to wait, don’t hesitate going here for the next month or so!
