It's a great hotel in an interesting and culturally important building. Generally everything is fine but there are a couple of small niggles with the hotel such as uncomfortable pillows - rather on the lumpy hard side, bottles of water in fridge - lovely and thoughtful but almost impossible to open. Main issue is parking and external access for those with limited mobility
Good Points:
- Super cool building in a very interesting, unusual city
- Fab design features. Especially loved bathroom in our room
- The male receptionist was kind and friendly
- Nice breakfast with good coffee
- Comfortable bed
- Food in the restaurant was fine
Bad points:
- Room was not clean enough. Dust and bits on floor, dusty, unclean surfaces
- I was particularly upset about one very dirty cup in our room and a tea spoon with hot chocolate from the last guest. I mentioned this to a female receptionist. She didnât really seem to care. Not even sure if she apologised. Sent housekeeping person who was equally like a robot. Suspect they often have complaints about cleanliness
- Itâs not luxurious. No body lotion in bathroom. Towels are basic, not fluffy and small
- Thin walls and little noise insulation. Could hear neighboursâ âŠ.. activities in vivid detail this morning and could actually feel the banging against our headboard
- Found it utterly gross when leaving room to see clean bedding and towels stacked on the carpets in the hallways. Seriously?!?! If I was unlucky, my bedding and towels could have been sat on a carpet where god knows how many people walk in outdoor shoes?!?!
Cleanliness is important to me and the factors that point to ineptitude of the housekeeping team made my skin crawl so much that I wouldnât stay at Telegraph again or recommend it.
Hotel has references to it's past life which is quite cool. We stayed in the duplex room, which while the concept is nice, it's rather small and maybe would've preferred a normal room. A lot of dark wood about as well so room felt quite dark. But otherwise was modern and clean. Breakfast was decent too. As this is a city centre location parking is difficult right outside the hotel to unload bags but there are car parks within 5 min walk.
Overall the stay was average. As mentioned my others, âSmart TVâ has network connections disabled, itâs bolted on so no access to any of the HDMI ports. Youâd think a 4 star hotel would provide toiletries such as toothpaste/moisturiser, no bathrobes too. The rooftop is nothing amazing, a lot of buildings nearby preventing good sunset views. Breakfast was good but seating wise it is within a small vicinity so be prepared to hear other peoples conversation at 8am in the morning. Bed was comfortable and room was clean however so 3/5.
