When we arrived we were given an upgrade to a Garden Room with a wonderful view of York Minster. The room was compact but had everything we needed for our overnight stay. It was quiet, clean something that I personally find important a dressing table area with an accessible plug socket.

Staff where friendly and couldn't do enough for us. I know it's York but an extra £20 per 24hrs to park was a bit much. Fridge in room wasn't plugged in and couldn't find how to plug it in. Stains on curtains and on chair in room. Really disappointed to be told we needed to book afternoon tea 24hrs in advance as there was no mention anywhere else. Breakfast was no better than you'd get at a travellodge and one morning there was a que. Evening menu very limited but so many better local places to eat. Not really worth the cost and certainly won't return.

Staff and room excellent. Not in hotel for much time. We did come in to the bar for a drink at 9.30. The bar seems very dark and it was difficult for us to find entranc to hotel.we had to ring as we had no information doors were closed at certain time. I think a little information about the details shoul be in room, not just price sheets for foodan services

It was difficult to find my single room in the annex. As a lone woman traveller, the room access felt very isolated, and involved going down into the basement, then along a long and curving corridor which wasn't very well lit, then up in a lift and along another corridor, with not many people around. My room overlooked the royal mail delivery office and I was woken up at 1:50am in the morning by a pneumatic drill being operated by a workman. There is a lot of building roadworks going on around the hotel at the moment and it appears at least some of it must have agreement from the highways department to take place overnight. It was disappointing the hotel did not give a warning about that when I booked. The swimming pool provides a decent length for exercise but was very busy with no allocated booking slots. Changing rooms did not have any privacy cubicles (open plan) and locker locks did not work. It was concerning how many people had phones which were being used in the changing rooms whilst people were in a state of undress. Bed was comfortable and room serviced well but overall I think it was overpriced for the amount of sleep lost due to the ongoing traffic works around the hotel .

The hotel itself is stunning. Great, warm welcome and our room, a twin, was very comfortable with a view directly to York Minster. Our room was beautifully clean and had everything and more needed for our short stay. Excellently located. The staff are outsandingly friendly and helpful and everything about The Milner made our visit to York so much more special. Highly recommended and would definitely come to The Milner again.

We wanted to celebrate our 50th anniversary in the hotel we spent our honeymoon .The room was dark and the view was of scaffolds over a noisy road . The tea making cupboard was broken and was promptly mended. Fantastic shower! Breakfasts were hectic round 9am and it was like bun fights where the harassed staff were struggling to keep the buffet supplied. The range of choices was good . Our anniversary evening meal had our choice unavailable which was a great disappointment. Lovely gym and small pool that gets crowded in the morning. Evening meal staff were lovely! Lovely relaxing bar area. Bar staff seemed distracted and not consistent in how they serve customers. Not impressed with a few housekeeping staff where there was a huge sense of reluctance to make up our room when we asked if it will be serviced? No way to indicate that we need our room serviced ? Compared to our week in a comparable hotel in Greece, there is a lot for room for improvements .

The room smelt very strongly of drains, particularly the bathroom. I was in room 5002. The outside noise was bad, I was woken by a pneumatic drill at 2am doing outside roadworks. Got a shock of £20 per day for parking on arrival, be aware.

Generally our stay was a pleasant experience and having the hotel immediately adjacent to the station was our main reason for the choice. It is an easy walk into the city. It annoys me that a double room in a premium hotel does come with 2 easy chairs. The room was okay but, the window, facing north, was not enough to give good light in a large room. We had the lights on all of the time we were in. The net curtains could be raised but only to reveal a dirty window. The hotel was otherwise warm and welcoming and the staff were very easy to talk to and knowledgeable. The bed was comfortable and we slept well and the bathroom was clean and well appointed. The dining room for breakfast was distinctly chilly but the food was fine.
Clearly a hotel with some history and, no doubt, a few stories to tell.
